After my last post about how good the Coats and Clark gold thread was, I tried two more gold threads by other makers that I had here in San Diego. You do not want to know the words that came out of my mouth while trying to sew with them! AHHHHH. Breakage, some shredding and the thread kept coming out of the needle. No matter what I tried the Sulky thread did not like my machine. The tension was too tight and no matter what I did to adjust it...it didn't help. Now mind you I am sewing on a Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 here in San Diego and in Vermont I have my Viking Quilt Designer (can't afford a Bernina...) but still it shouldn't be so hard! Of course I forgot my Coats and Clark gold metallic thread in Vermont so I used what I had here! Wrong! So I got in the car and went to the local WalMart...yes, Walmart has that gold thread I said was so good earlier, (embroidery style by Coats and Clark). I picked up some gold as well as some silver thread. The silver worked very well and the only problem I found was when I used the automatic cutter. Not sure why but when I did not use the cutter then there were no issues. Anyway...here is a sneak peek at the corner of one of my new patterns. The dragonfly needed the silver thread and I love it. Not even close to being done but thought I would share. It's taking a lot longer to put these samples together!!!! Note: To read the post on the gold thread and this in the future just go to the right side of my blog and click on Metallic Thread.

Haven't tried Coats & Clarks metallics, will pick up next time out to try. I love the affect of metallic but it gets frustrating at times-and at Walmart-wouldn't have thought that. Thanks

Yes....and for less than $4.00 it's worth a try! Do tell me if it works for you!

Thanks for sharing Sue - good information. Did you use the metallic in the top (needle) thread or the bobbin please?

I have never tried it in the bobbin! Hmmmm....but the success was when I used it in the top. Thanks for asking and bringing up another idea. :)
