Signing Your Work: An Easier Way....

I've always struggled with how to sign or label my art quilts. I don't like making labels or sewing them on....not even fusing. I love the way Lorraine Roy and other artists sign their name with their sewing machine... right there on the front. Right where I think it should be. I've been practicing and practicing with the straight stitch to make it look something like my name...well it didn't and I was not happy. So I tried to make my initials....but that wasn't really me. Hmmm....so today it dawned on me that I could use a free motion zig zag....why of course! It would be wider and thicker! It might show up and it would give me some time to move the fabric too! Silly me..why not! So I tried it. I did a pretty good job on the first one right away. One that I could actually read! I practiced 4 more times and this was my first attempt on an art quilt. Not to bold, not too soft, blends in but you can read it if you look. I used a variegated, Superior, King Tut thread, a Schmidt, gold embroidery,  #75/11 needle and turned my zig zag settings down to 2.0 width and 1.6 length (not that it matters) with feed dogs down.  I did add a little bit of light green Caran wax pastel crayon to the top of the cursive S because it didn't show. YAY! For my first attempt I am happy. It's me! I hope I remember how to do this on my next piece! I'll have to re read this post! If you have tips or this helps do share with us!
